WHO I AM AS AN ARTIST
My name is Jake Germann, I grew up in the small town of Saint Charles just outside of Saint Louis, Missouri. I drew Dragon Ball Z characters and many others as well as my own creations just about every day for the majority of my childhood. Admittedly, in my teens and most of my twenties, I got distracted with other hobbies , interests, work, and life in general. I went through a phase of not believing I would be good enough or that there wasn't even really a path for me as an artist anyway (this was before instagram and youtube when just about the only source of connecting with artists online was DeviantArt.) I will always carry the weight of not pursuing my passion when I was younger not in sadness but as motivation to follow my gut and to do what I am passionate about regardless of how risky it may seem. No matter how many times I have told myself "you're too old you have no chance. Just let it go." I remember that when I was younger I told myself "there are too few paths for the art you want to do and you're not good enough anyway." Of course I know now how wrong that was. The internet brought a new wave of art to so many peoples eyes and I wasn't a part of that. But I believe now that art will always push forward and new opportunities will come as technology changes. Which is why I spent the last 3 years of my 20's not partying, gaming with friends or gunning for a promotion with my day job. I spent those last years drawing and painting every day for hours. Trying to learning a decades worth of art wisdom and skill as quickly as I could so that I can work as an illustrator and concept artist and to work on my personal project "Space Kowboi". It's been a beautiful and sometimes painful journey so far but here I am ready to continue learning and growing through my art
- forever onward and upward.
